Quote of the Day

“I really didn’t see myself doing any other job but being in the kitchen.”

That was Whitney Thomas, the new executive chef at 5Church restaurant in Uptown Charlotte. She was in her third year of college at UNC Chapel Hill when she decided to pursue her passion for cooking rather than the degrees for sports science and African American studies.

With no formal training, Thomas worked her way from the bottom of the culinary industry as a dishwasher up to the rank of executive chef at one of Charlotte's most popular restaurants.

Get to know Chef Whitney.

Did you know that children with untreated dental cavities are absent from school at a rate three times higher than students who have no untreated cavities?

Academic performance is one area among many affected if dental care is neglected. Additionally, experts say oral health outcomes are predictably worse among lower-income groups, most notably in African Americans, Latinos and families in rural areas.
