Alexandria Library Receives Rotary Grant

Alexandria Library receives award from Rotary Club of Alexandria!
The Alexandria Library is pleased to announce an expansion of programs and services for children with autism and other sensory processing disorders and their families through a generous $1,500 grant from the Rotary Club of Alexandria. Duncan Branch Library will receive a variety of calming aids such as weighted blankets, weighted stuffed animals, and fidget toys, for children to use during their weekly Sensory Storytime programs. Beatley Central Library will debut bi-monthly Sensory Playtime programs, small play groups held in an enclosed space with adjustable lighting, specialized toys, and calming aids.
Additionally, Beatley Central, Barrett Branch, Burke Branch, and Duncan Branch will all receive calming aids, fidget toys, and noise canceling headphones that children can use during their library visits to help lower their anxiety and better control their library experiences. All four library branches will also receive new books for their collections on autism, sensory issues, and disability for a variety of audiences. Grant sponsored programs and resources will be available in the fall.
