Enroll today!

The new 4-H year began this past week on September 1st.  Any South Carolina 4-H member that enrolls in 4HOnline before October 1st this year will have a T-shirt mailed directly to them.  If you are interested in a 4-H shirt this year as a parent or volunteer, please contact your local 4-H agent before October 1st. Start your spark by joining 4-H as a volunteer or enrolling your child through  4HOnline enrollment.  Don't miss your chance to see the great things that are happening.  This e-newsletter communicates many statewide programs. To find out what is happening in your local community, reach out to your local 4-H agent.

4‑H’s positive youth development programs are available where you need them and welcome children who want to have fun, learn and grow. 4-H plays an important role in helping young people discover and pursue their sparks. In some cases, it is a matter of youth recognizing their spark or simply developing it when the spark has already found them!  We provide critical learning resources for kids and teens all year long. An example of one activity you can do at home or in a club setting is highlighted below.

As a parent or volunteer, you are making a huge impact on the lives of youth.  It is important work that creates a sense of belonging, purpose, confidence, and resilience. Positive youth development is more important than ever in our world. Thank you for being a shining light and supportive, positive role model for our young people.

A full list of upcoming statewide opportunities and our annual calendar are available online.

Monthly 4-H Club Activity Idea
Each month, this e-newsletter gives you a monthly activity idea that you can try with youth in your club/community.  Special attention has been given to identify activities that can be easily conducted on a budget, during a distance-learning or in-person 4-H club setting, and adaptable for multiple age groups. This month's activity comes from 4-H at Home and is entitled, "Solar Oven S'Mores". As the weather starts to change and fair season approaches, put your STEM skills to the test with with this tasty treat. In this activity, kids will learn how engineers harness the sun’s energy for other purposes by building a tin foil-lined cardboard box that uses the sun’s rays to cook delicious s’mores!

4-H Pinckney Leadership Program reflects on 5 years of success stories

September 2, 2022 - When Alex Blocker arrived at Camp Bob Cooper in 2018 and was told to hand over his phone for the week — “you won’t need it,” the staff said — he wondered what he’d gotten himself into.

“When someone takes a teenager’s phone, it is akin to the world ending,” Blocker said. “My heart sank, knowing that I would lose all of my Snapchat streaks and wouldn’t have contact with my friends.”.

Instead, Blocker found exactly why he came to the camp on Lake Marion to begin with...

4-H’ers from across SC learn life lessons from Clemson gridiron legend

August 4, 2022 - Just like the game that decided the 2016 college football national champion, this year’s South Carolina 4-H State Congress featured boisterous applause throughout and ended with tears of joy on Clemson University’s campus.
