The Commission together with grantees and alumni had the pleasure to visit the exhibition "Saudade e Portugal" by Fulbrighter Neal Slavin, hosted by WOW in Porto! What a great opportunity to see these 100 photographs that Neal captured across Portugal, of which, 50 were taken in 1968, when, while on a Fulbright grant here, he was one of the few foreign photographers allowed to capture images of our country. The remaining 50 photographs were taken between 2016 and 2019.

2022 VIRTUAL PRE-DEPARTURE METING FOR US GRANTEES

The Fulbright Commission Portugal held on June 21st, the 2022 Virtual Pre-Departure Meeting for US grantees who will be departing for their Programs in Portugal throughout next academic year.
This session, led by the Commission’s Executive Director, Otília Reis, and US Program Manager, Dora Arenga, focused on topics that grantees should consider before traveling to Portugal such as grantee’s benefits and responsibilities, ASPE conditions and coverage, applying for a visa and status for accompanying dependents, housing, schools and medical checklist, mental health awareness and support and connecting with the Fulbright community.
At the end of the session, Professor Elba Serrano and Fulbright ETA Brooke Barrera Sheldon shared their experience and valuable tips with the newly selected grantees, followed by questions from the audience.
We look forward to welcoming this excellent group of grantees during next academic year!

É com tristeza e pesar que dizemos o último adeus à Professora Laura Pires. Fulbright Scholar em Georgetown (1988/89), membro do Conselho Diretivo da Comissão Fulbright e, desde 2017, era presidente da Fulbrighters Portugal: "Vai fazer-nos muita falta a amizade da professora Laura, as suas ideias sempre fervilhantes e a determinação para as pôr em prática...", relembrou Otília Reis, Diretora Executiva da Comissão Fulbright.

IIE invites current grantees and alumni to submit artwork to be considered for the cover of the Open Doors 2022 report that will be published in January 2023.
This is an excellent opportunity for artists to be featured in a publication that reaches thousands of readers regarding international educational exchange in the United States.
