Water Challenges in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
In addition to micro-loans, which she introduced earlier this year, Sister Rose works to make water accessible in her South Kivu communities. TCP Global earnings help.
ASSIT and Sister Rose came to TCP Global through the   Global Sisters Report in the National Catholic Reporter.
After walking up to an hour, girls wait in line for water from this small pipe. If they go and return in a group, they will be tardy or miss school entirely. If they go alone, they risk rape.

The 20 liters they collect on one trip is inadequate for the hygiene and household needs for the average 6 member family.
Sister Rose wants to install a larger pipe and eventually bring water to seven terminals in Bwahungu village at a total cost of $6120.

The next challenge will be to provide clean water. For now, she encourages people to boil water.

Chris Roesel, TCP Global's Director for Africa programs. is founder and Executive Director of P2P Inc. which works directly with TCP Global partners to improve health outcomes.

P2P provides funds while partners do whatever it takes to make water both accessible and drinkable.
Celebrating the new bore hole in Achiba, Uganda -- installed with $6200 from P2P and coordinated by TCP Global borrowers in the Rotary Club of Yumbe.
P2P donated Sawyer Water filters to provide clean water for Achiba Village families for 10 years.
Women learned how to assemble and maintain the filters. Each will share with 3 other families.
Rukia Driciru, Yumbe Rotary Club president, provides samples of clean water.
28 women volunteered to be "Water Ladies" for Achiba. Clean water is the key to good health.

Low-tech hand-wash stations and latrines are part of the health solution along with new or repaired bore holes to provide a plentiful, accessible water supply. With water filters to purify the water, diarrhea and dyssentery are virtually eliminated.

Sister Larraine of Water With Blessings introduced P2P and TCP Global to Sawyer Water Filters and shared her process to train 'water women' so one filter serves four households.
P2P provided 50 water filters to serve many of the 30 Village Savings and Loan Association micro-loan groups supported by Potentiel Terre in Niger.
Zakari Hassane of Potentiel Terre trained the women.
"The developing world is full of entrepreneurs and visionaries who, with access to education, equity and credit would play a key role in developing the economic situation in their countries."               Muhammad Yunus
TCP Global is grateful for recent donations from the groups below to help pay for fiscal sponsor services provided by the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA).  These donations support NPCA project administration and NPCA's overall mission. 100% of regular donations are distributed as micro loans.
We would love to add your group's logo here as well.
Until Peace Corps is fully back in the field, TCP Global is a good substitute for Peace Corps Partnership Projects for supporting development in small and remote communities around the world.
