This week's Wisdom Café Wednesday contains a curated list of resources and information about the return to work process. Beginning on June 16, 2021, consistent with guidance from the state of California, campus began permitting employees who previously were working remotely to return to on-site work on a voluntary basis, subject to their supervisor and business unit’s approval.
As we prepare for the start of the fall semester in August, it is critical that you and your manager discuss what work will look like for you and your unit. For most of us, this means determining whether we will be returning to work in person, continuing to work remotely, or will have a hybrid schedule. The resources below will guide you through this process, so get started now!
This Quick Start Guide is to assist managers and employees begin thinking through and preparing for the return to on-site work and the start of the fall semester. No later than July 12, 2021, each business unit needs to have a plan in place that will have it ready for the fall semester and the return to “close-to-normal” operations.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided us the opportunity to learn new ways to excel in our work. Starting in March 2020, our campus workforce adapted, innovated, persevered, and learned. UC Berkeley’s Future of Work Committee was developed by Berkeley's Division of Academic Planning to better understand what you, our workforce, wants and needs when we return to the workplace. This committee seeks to deliver guidance that campus leaders, managers, and supervisors may choose to implement once we are able to safely return to campus.
In some areas of the world, the pandemic is starting to get under control and companies are contemplating a return to the workplace. The ability to do so safely is dependent on many factors: the existing physical space, work functions, and local attitudes and expectations. This course provides practical strategies for evaluating your current systems and spaces, making changes, and managing ongoing health and safety issues.
As organizations begin to reopen physical workplaces, many will undergo drastic changes to protect the health and safety of employees and accommodate the “new normal” work environment. This Gartner resource page offers guidance and tools on the key phases of returning employees to the workplace.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has developed the following guidance to assist employers and workers in safely returning to work and reopening businesses deemed by local authorities as “non-essential businesses” during the evolving Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Employers can use this guidance to develop policies and procedures to ensure the safety and health of their employees.
