Senior Executive report

Congratulations to Year 12

Congratulations to our Year 12 cohort on completing your final assessments at Rose Bay Secondary College. Your teachers are looking forward to having you back in online classes next week (the hybrid model will continue). Whilst we know how resilient you are and we keep asking you to be, the constant change to HSC timelines is an added cause of stress we know. We are currently planning for how we will support you to stay motivated and make the most of these additional weeks next term. We will be strongly encouraging you to take a complete break during the two weeks of school holidays so you come back refreshed for the final haul.

In Teams Free Tuesday news, during our final one for the term we are hoping to offer some free musical workshops with some of our wonderful Instrumental Music Program Tutors. Music is good for the soul! Free workshops on offer will include percussive drum beats (using what ever you have in your household e.g. pots and pans), choral singalong, beginner and intermediate guitar. Keep an eye out in Teams and next week's e-news.

Look who grew up to teach at RBSC?

Wellbeing

Welcome to our Special Edition of MANY WAYS, where we discuss all aspects of mental health and the importance of self-care.

It’s important to take care of yourself when it comes to your mental health.
Feeling anxious is more common than you think. Being anxious is how our mind develops a response to solving the problem. Even if you are not a typically anxious person, it’s common to feel anxiety during a period of change and adversity.

Simple steps and changes to how you live doesn’t need to cost a fortune or take up loads of time. This is where a self-care plan and a mental health check comes in.

Mullets for Mental Health!

In alignment with the Black Dog Institutes' September Mullets for Mental Health Campaign, RBSC is looking to crown the ultimate mullet (either a student or staff member) grown throughout the month of September. Participants in this challenge will strive to trim, pamper and present a mullet worthy of the title 'Greatest Mullet at RBSC', whilst also raising funds for Mental Health Research in Australia.

If you are interested in participating, please use the link below to register an account and join the RBSC Mullets for Mental Health Team Page

School News

A good news story from Bondi Surf Club

A good news story from Bondi Surf Club for your Friday evening.

A bit before sunset one of our awesome young members Rory, Year 10 came banging on the window dripping wet in his wettie to request access to the first aid room as there had been an incident in the surf. He let me know the approximate location of the accident and while I went to fetch the lifeguards he ran down to help.

The lifeguards were finished for the day so I came down to the beach to assist. The bloke had a terrible gash on his face and Rory already had the situation under control and was delivering oxygen.

The guy was stable and chatting away, it was clear that he was comfortable in Rory's care. I was so stoked to see how well he handled the situation. What a great ambassador for our club!

Thanks Rory and well-done!

Book Week winners!

During Book Week 2021 (23rd - 27th August) students in Year 7 were encouraged to create a virtual background on Teams of a special book cover. This background was used in all of their lessons throughout Book Week. Students were given "How to..." instructions and the resulting products were inspiring in quality. Ruby's which appears above is one example of an outstanding effort.

This activity extended technology skills and encouraged reflection about why we love some books more than others.

The virtual backgrounds of the students listed above were judged the best in their class by their English teachers and all students from Year 7 to Year 12 who participated will be issued with a school award. Thank you also to the English Faculty for their support of the Book Week program. The winners were: 7S Juno, 7A Hanna, 7L Joseph, 7O Ruby, 7C Isabelle, 7E Bronte, 7Y Charlotte, 7B Dora.

Sports Year 7 - 10 report

RBSC students in Years 7-10 will be using the 'Battle Fit' app during their allocated sports times for the foreseeable future. BattleFit is great for fitness, training, getting active, getting motivated and the best part about it, it's social. Workout with your peers without having to be in the location. Students have been provided a link on their year group teams page. Additionally, an email has been sent home to all parents and students. Workouts will be distributed to students on a weekly basis to complete for 'sport'. Each workout earns points in the battle against the rest of their year group. Those points will then turn into Star, Bronze or Silver awards depending on how many you achieve.
