Kayaker Safe. Caught in South Swell. Rescued Boat. Lost Gear. Went Home. Oops.

OWN VOICE. If you lose your sailing, boating, or fishing gear, AND YOU ARE SAFE. please, call the nearest Harbor District or water authority to let them know.

Yesterday (9/15/21), a kayak paddle, a seat and two great looking cod were discovered at Mavericks Beach. Once the Harbor District is notified by the public of such a finding, they are bound by law to initiate a search.

As it turns out, according to Doug Conner of HMB Kayak, the kayak probably got caught in the south swell and the kayaker exhausted himself getting back to the beach and then he went home.

Meanwhile his gear came in with the tide and caused worry and commotion.

Afghanistan: A Veteran Speaks

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Anonymous Veteran, with Gregg Dieguez —

An associate of mine, who was a Green Beret, an FBI agent, then served 4 years in Iraq and Afghanistan as a contractor, wrote me with the following take on recent news concerning Afghanistan.

So Jake Tapper of CNN (who ought to know better because he did a tour in a combat outpost in Afghanistan as an embedded reporter) and many others are raising the specter of “Why we failed in Afghanistan?“.  We didn’t fail in Afghanistan.

We SUCCEEDED in Afghanistan – at least in terms of our original purpose for going there

HMB Rotary Presents Environmental Architect, Rinaldo Vesaliza on Localized Wastewater Recycling

OWN VOICE VIDEO. From the Half Moon Bay Rotary Club meeting on Thursday, August 12th, 2021 by Zoom. The title could also be “Stop Wasting Precious Drinking Water.”

Desalination is expensive. Recycling the water that we dump into the ocean is cheaper than desalination. As California becomes a water system that can no longer rely on snow pack, we must learn and design systems that allow us to recycle tank to tap and stormwater. ~ Michelle Dragony

Tax The Middle Class!

OWN VOICE. ~ InPerspective by Gregg Dieguez —

I know you’ll be as shocked as I was to find a City Council putting Real Estate interests ahead of those of their current residents and voters. Then again, maybe you’ve noticed the Undue Influence of the Real Estate industry around here. But this example is particularly perverse, damaging our shared infrastructure for the benefit of people who don’t even live here yet, and profiting Real Estate interests at the same time.

Would Signage Help With Sharing and Caring While Using Our Wonderful Coastside Trail?

OWN VOICE. By David Marsland, resident of Half Moon Bay.

I love the Coastside trail. We often walk the trail, sometimes with our small dog. I also love to bicycle on the trail.

When I’m walking the trail I try hard to stay on the right and avoid taking up more than half the trail even if I’m walking with others.

When I’m bicycling on the trail I also try hard to stay to the right and use my bell to warn people that I’m coming. As I get closer I often call out “On your left”, followed by “You’re good”, then “Thanks so much”, especially if they moved to the right.

Growing Stages Presents “Seascape” by Edward Albee on the Mirada Surf Beach

Growing Stages is thrilled to present SEASCAPE, a play by Edward Albee. October 16 and 17 around 3pm along the dunes of Mirada Surf Beach located at, Mirada Rd & Magellan Ave, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019.

Directing Ranger (Tanika Baptiste): On a deserted stretch of beach, a middle-aged couple was relaxing after a picnic lunch and conversing idly about home, family, and their life together. She (Allison Berke) was sketching; he (Maurice Ngakane) was napping. Then, suddenly, they were approached by two sea creatures (John Szabo & Lauren Brazell) from the depths of the ocean, with whom they engaged in a fascinating dialogue with. The emotional and intellectual reverberations of this bizarre conversation still lingers in their hearts and the minds long after the days events.
