Others replicate the animal husbandry, farming and retail efforts of these Dalit (untouchable caste) borrowers.
DDAM supports members of the DALIT caste in Dang in Southwest Nepal.
In September, 2021 the Jyoti Agricultural group issued 14 loans. All borrowers repaid in full in March, 2022. As members of the Dalit caste, they must develop their own opportunities.
CBODC-Adarsha Changes Lives
Sita Chaudhary of Sunlight women's group used to raise enough vegetables only for home consumption. With a low interest loan of 25,000 Rupees ($212) through TCP Global partner CBODC-Adarsha, she planted cauliflower, cabbage tomato, hot pepper, coriander, garlic and potato.The family never lacks nutritious vegetables.
"From vegetable farming my family members got work to do and doing work with family is fun" says Sita.
Her husband used to make $5 a day -- not enough for their family of 8. Now he works on the vegetable farm where their winter crop alone brought in $470. Profits covered household, school and medical expenses plus a motor for irrigating fields. For the summer season they planted pumpkin, cucumber, gourds and beans.
After success with the vegetable farming Sita became confident to speak in public and now feels financially secure.
"Doing work own field and earning is best experience" Sita says.

Men now have the option to stay home to work instead of migrating to India and the Middle East to do menial labor.
While most TCP Global borrowers are women, men are also eligible. Particularly in Nepal, where COVID brought men home from dirty, dangerous and demeaning (3D) migratory work, men need new ways to support their families. Through the SHIP program in Nepal, Dorje and Bal (above) received loans for raising goats and for a small store.

After COVID and loss of income, people in this remote DANG village in Western Nepal have hope. Members of the Lawajuni Agricultural group are raising goats, pigs and poultry commercially and doing large-scale vegetable farming supported by the Development Fund Norway and aided by TCP Global loans issued in March, 2022.
Five entrepreneurs received loans of $164 to $821 on March 23, 2022
Dila Chaudhary, 47 and her 6 family members grew only enough vegetables to sustain themselves six months of the year. She previously supplemented their income with a small poultry business. She will expand that business with a loan of $821 (100,000 rupees).
Dilli Raj Chaudhary, 52, finds it difficult to support his family of 11 with his small vegetable farm. With a 100,000 Rupee loan from TCP Global through DDAM he will do vegetable farming on a big scale. He will buy a power tiller and build a hothouse.
Sita Chaudhary, 45, received a 20,000 Rupee loan ($164US) in March. She plans to build a hothouse to improve her vegetable farming so that she can better provide for her family of seven.
Dashani Chaudhary, 40, received a loan of 29,000 rupees to build a shed and buy 4 goats to expand her business so as to better provide for her family of seven.
Sushila Chaudhary, 32 was able to provide food for her family of eight for seven months of the year by rearing pigs and goats. Thanks to a loan of 53,.000 rupees she will build a pen for her animals, add livestock and increase her earnings.
Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research & Development (LIBIRD) administers TCP Global loans North of Kathmandu.
Ms. Jagat Kumari, age 50, is a member of Sundar Tauthali Agriculture Cooperative, with 15 years of experience raising goats.
Her 1st loan of 20,000 rupees ($164) was used to buy a goat and 2 kids. LIBIRD provided training and technical support. Jagat repaid her loan in full and received a second loan of 30,000 rupees to purchase a calf.
PJBS administers TCP Global loans in Pajarkot Province in far western Nepal.
Mrs. Pabitra Thapa sends "... a big thank you to PJBS and TCP Global for granting us easy loans to add more items in our shop." Her husband no longer migrates to work in India now that the business can support their 7 member household thanks to a $150 loan to increase inventory, sales and profits.
