latest data on mangroves


Wetlands International, on behalf of The Global Mangrove Alliance, is thrilled to share the release of the first update of the Global Mangrove Watch (GMW) platform with mangrove data up to 2020 and many new exciting features.

With this, Global Mangrove Watch provides the most comprehensive, reliable, and up-to-date scientific information currently available on global mangrove extent and status across the planet, brought together by 108 representatives from 21 countries.

Positive News in the world of wetlands 

🌱  The magic of mangroves! A new study recently discovered how mangrove forests off the coast of La Paz in Mexico have been quietly keeping carbon out of the Earth’s atmosphere for nearly 5,000 years.

💧 Researchers are estimating how rewetting dried wetlands could stop 100 billion tons of CO2 emissions - limiting more greenhouse gas emissions this century than restoring global forests. #WeNeedWetlands 

🌍 In a landmark court case, UK's high court orders the Environment Agency to reduce water abstraction and protect England’s rare wetland habitats. 🥳
