Get Video Games with Curbside Service
Are your kids (or you) getting stir-crazy now that summer is winding to a close? Beat the boredom and borrow some new video games for free from Baltimore County Public Library, then pick them up using curbside service.

Explore the Make-IT Place

Looking for a fun tech project for you, your club or your classroom? Explore Make-IT Place, a unique virtual makerspace, and learn how to:

  • Make a Raspberry Pi web server
  • Design your own 3D keychain with Tinkercad
  • Create an animated sprite in Piskel
  • Use Scratch to program an interactive game
  • And more!


You'll find bite-sized lessons and videos created by a community of makers that present easy STEM projects in a step-by-step, moderated online environment.

Make-IT Place offers a safe, secure online community exchange of ideas, lesson plans and activities to increase technology literacy for users of all ages across Maryland. Jump in and see what you can do!

Share Your Creations

If you've created your own step-by-step STEM projects, set up an account and upload them to Make-IT Place for others to learn from.

Made possible by an Institute of Museum and Library Services grant to the Maryland State Library in support of the Library Services and Technology Act, Make-IT Place is designed to facilitate both a broad exposure to, and deep understanding of, technology. The Make-IT Place is hosted by OER Commons, an Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) initiative. Browse and download projects without an account, or create one to post your own projects and comment on others.

SRC Extended Through August 30
The 2020 Summer Reading Challenge is extended through August 30! That means you have one more week to complete the challenge and win prizes! Commemorative T-shirts remain on sale and the weekly prize drawings will continue. Starting August 31, you can turn in your completed game boards using curbside service in exchange for one of the following prizes (while supplies last):
  • A book
  • A water-squirting unicorn
  • A spiral notebook

Programs for all ages are available through Facebook, YouTube and other virtual platforms. *Registration may be required and closes one hour before the start of the program or when session is filled. A valid email address is needed at registration to send a Zoom or Discord link to the program 30 minutes before scheduled start. Here are some highlights:

Family Evening Read-Aloud
Monday, August 24, 7 p.m.
Enjoy a read-aloud of an award-winning book with the whole family, followed by a creative activity challenge.​ *

Snapology: Create a Fantasy Map
Tuesday, August 25, 4 p.m.
Maps can lead us safely to our destinations and even instill wanderlust through beautiful pictures. Maps of magical lands are incredibly important because they can lead characters to safe places, instead of bad ones. Join us as we become map makers of a magical land! It is suggested that participants have loose LEGO bricks. A 32x32 baseplate is optional. *

Baltimore County Dialogs on Race: Community Police Relations
Tuesday, August 25, 7:30 p.m.
Widespread public protests across the country and around the world following the death of George Floyd are bringing renewed attention to police officers' treatment of Black Americans and highlight long-standing inequities. Farajii Muhammad, host of For the Culture with Farajii on WEAA 88.9, moderates a discussion on ongoing issues surrounding policing in the region. Panelists include DeRay Mckesson, civil rights activist; Melissa Hyatt, Baltimore County Chief of Police; Adam Jackson, Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle; Dave Rose, Fraternal Order of Police; Anthony Fugett, NAACP. Additional panelists to be announced. Presented by Baltimore County Public Library, Baltimore County Human Relations Commission and Baltimore County Office of Diversity and Equity, in collaboration with WEAA 88.9.​ *

3D Printing Social Hour for Teens

Learn the basics of how to use Tinkercad to create 3D designs and watch a virtual demonstration of the 3D printer in action. *

Managing Anxiety During Uncertain Times
Wednesday, August 26, 7 p.m.
Join us for a conversation about mental health and wellness as we navigate these turbulent times. Gain insight about mental health conditions as well as common warning signs and symptoms. Learn how to take care of yourself and others, along with the best means of coping with anxiety, depression and isolation.​ In cooperation with NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore. *

Happy Hour Live Concert with Cleveland Chandler
Thursday, August 27, 5 p.m.
End your workday with a live concert featuring Cleveland Chandler, a violinist with the United States Air Force Band. You bring the mocktail or cocktail, we provide the music. As an audience member, you can ask Cleveland questions to learn about his instrument and music selections. *

Thursday, August 27, 7:30 p.m.
Join us for virtual bingo! Players receive an email with the links to virtual cards. Winners receive a $10 e-gift card as well as bragging rights. For adults ages 18 and older. *

Learning From Home: Setting Up Your Child's Space
Thursday, August 27, 7 p.m.
​Learn ways to set up your child's space to get them ready for virtual learning this fall. A presentation, followed by a Q&A session.​ In cooperation with BCPS. *
