This week saw the official visit by President Xi to Shenzhen to celebrate 40 years of development. His speech was important to the SIS community because he indicated support for the continuing growth of the city through the attraction of foreign talent. Our school was founded to support the development of Shenzhen by providing international-quality education to expatriate and globally connected families. I am very pleased that it will be our continuing responsibility to promote international education as Shenzhen continues to lead the world in many areas of innovation.
The school continues to work closely with the authorities to demonstrate high levels of hygiene and safety. After the announcement of cases of Covid-19 in Qingdao over the National Day vacation we have been carefully monitoring all the people who enter our campuses. We very much appreciate the support of families in checking their children for any illness each morning and alerting the school with any issues. Together we can ensure our community stays safe.
We are celebrating the arrival of several more teachers from quarantine. The process of transit from around the world to our classrooms continues and we are happy to welcome Brian Gumport, Matthew Browne, Leda Cedo, Alastair Fairman, Jennifer Hanna, Stephane Genard, and Jacqueline Suh into the SIS community here in Shekou. While welcoming staff home is great news, I also regret to share that we will be commencing a global search for a secondary principal as Mr Phil Rogers will be pursuing new opportunities next year. I am confident in finding an excellent replacement and will keep the community informed on this matter over the next month.
Best regards
Greg Smith
Head of School
