Township News Page - There are updates posted on the Mendham Township News & Announcements page. Please take a look for news there on a regular basis.

Election News
General Election: November 3 – The General Election on Nov. 3, is being conducted primarily by mail. Voting machines will not be used for the general election. If you come to a polling place, you will vote on a (paper) provisional ballot (unless you require ADA accommodations). Vote by Mail ballots are being mailed to all registered voters. The best way to return your ballot is at the secure drop box at the Mendham Borough Police Station, 3 Cold Hill Road South. Other drop box locations list. 

Ballots also can be returned by mail. It must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received no later than Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. Finally, you can bring your ballot to the polling station on Election Day. The only polling station for Mendham Township will be at the Emergency Services Building, 1 Cherry Lane, Brookside.

Police & Safety Updates
9 PM Routine Reminder - We continue to have issues with stolen vehicles and attempted stolen vehicles, including most recently this past Sunday morning. The police ask all residents to practice their 9 PM routine by ensuring keys or valuables are not left in vehicles; vehicles and residences, including garages, are secure; and report all suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.

Vacation Home Checks - If you are planning to go away this month, you may register your home for a vacant home check with the police department. Call the non-emergency police number: 973-543-2581.


Oh, Deer! - It's deer mating season, and this activity continues into the third week of November. Deer will be running across roadways more than usual. Drivers should be especially careful, especially at dawn and dusk.
Environmental Commission

Water Testing - The Environmental Commission is partnering with the Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) to hold a Water Testing event on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Residents can drive-through to purchase a testing kit from the big blue RHA van parked in the lot. Samples must be returned to the municipal building on Monday, Nov. 16, between 7 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Get more information.

Outdoor Activities
Tinkergarten - Classes are back for a 6-week virtual session, starting in November! Each season has a theme, and November is Wellness. (It's good for kids *and* parents to spend a little time thinking about wellness these days!) Each session is 30 minutes long, conducted over Zoom, using Tinkergarten's tried-and-true virtual curriculum, and your community leader who will engage each family in the small, virtual class in curiosity and inspire nature and wellness play. Register for the season, and sessions work out to just $12 each. All are welcome -- from caregivers/parents home with toddlers to homeschoolers! Register with Mendham's local leader (and see other options nationwide).
Homeschooling at Schiff Nature Preserve - Starting on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m., for the entire month, bring your child to school in the outdoors with this program designed for all age levels. Each week, children will explore a different topic using tactile experiential learning, while enhancing deductive reasoning skills. Social distancing and face coverings required for use when distancing is not possible. Children ages 5-16 may be dropped off if parents provide health and emergency contact information. The member fee is $10 per child or $30 for a family/four. Non-members pay $15 per child or $50 for a family/four. (Parents/chaperones attend for free.) NEW! After School Nature Club - On Thursdays, starting on Nov. 5, from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., hit the trails at Schiff! Drop off your child ages 5-12 (or grades K-6th) for a totally outdoor learning experience, as we go through the Fall season and observe how the natural world is changing. Parents must provide health and emergency contact information. Capacity is temporarily limited to 12. Social distancing and face coverings are required, when distancing is not possible. The member fee is $10 per child; the non-member fee is $15 per child. Register today.

Tree ID Workshop & Hike - Learn the variety of trees that grow in this area at this hands-on workshop. The program includes an indoor presentation and a short walk to practice learning leaf, branch and bark identification. The workshop takes place on Saturday, Nov. 7,  from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Appropriate for ages 12 +. This is free to members. Non-members pay just $5. Register today!

Hike Off The Holiday - On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, join a naturalist for a guided gentle 4-mile tour of the Schiff property. See many of the unique features of the preserve, while working off some of that Thanksgiving Feast! Children ages 8+ are welcome. The member fee is $3/person; family/four is $10. Non-members pay $5/person; non-members family/four is $18. Register today before this hike fills up.

  • Children's Story Time - Every Friday on Instagram. Follow the library @mendhamtwplib.

Events for Teens:
  • Tik Tok Trivia Night - On Tuesday, Nov 17, at 7 p.m., test your Tik Tok knowledge with friends, and compete for prizes at this virtual trivia night for grades 6-12! Send an e-mail Kristina.Rivero@mendhamtwplib.org to attend.


Activities for Adults:

  • Book Talk - On Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., via Zoom, join the library for a fascinating story as author Jessica Chiccahitto Hindman discusses her memoir, Sounds Like Titanic. This is her true story of landing her dream job with a "professional" music ensemble, but everything is not as it seems. Register to receive the Zoom link.
 
  • Mindful Meditation - On Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., via Zoom, join a mindful meditation program with expert Peter Dlugos, who has been practicing meditation for many years. Register and get the Zoom link.
