Leanna Dugan and Hollye Gallion, pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) and medical providers at Our Kids - which provides medical evaluations and crisis counseling in response to concerns of child sexual abuse - will be leading a webinar presentation on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6 PM discussing the current landscape of child sexual abuse, providing updates on what to watch for and how to counsel families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Update from Dr. Morgan McDonald, Deputy Commissioner for Population Health, TN Dept of Health:
HHS has begun supplying the state with BinaxNOW COVID-19 rapid POC antigen tests. Since one of the priority groups for testing is school-aged children, TDH is making available up to 250 BinaxNOW tests per practice to pediatricians now. Practices must meet the following requirements:
Provider must be a CLIA Waived facility or apply for a CLIA Waiver if not already CLIA Waived
Use the COVID-19 Rapid Test per manufacturer's instructions
Report all test results to TDH (Report link: HERE)
Counsel patients based upon their results
Instructions for test utilization can be found in the TDH BinaxNOW General Guidance PDF (linked). BinaxNOW COVID-19 rapid test kits can be ordered online through TEMA's Survey 123 using the instructions to Request Binax Supplies (linked). For facilities to be added to TEMA's Survey 123, they need to email their practice's information to COVID19.Testing@tn.gov.
As a reminder, TDH has published a Return-to-School Algorithm that incorporates high and low-risk symptoms and testing when appropriate.
The AAP is providing updated clinical guidance that is regularly reviewed with regards to the evolving nature of the pandemic.
TDH alsocontinues to post regular COVID-19 updates related to case reporting, triage and assessment, exposure for healthcare providers, lab testing options, and more:
The Pediatric Management Institute (PMI) has been hosting a regular webinar series on the "Business Impact of COVID-19 on Pediatric Practices." PMI also has an active online forum for discussion among providers for how to deal with issues.
