Two and a half years ago, Nayeon Kim moved to Regent Park and became deeply involved in the community. An idea began to take root in her mind when her husband, who sits on their condo board, told her how difficult it was to find companies that provide excellent landscaping and groundskeeping services. Nayeon envisions an employment social enterprise that would service the young people and condo boards in Regent Park. Nayeon joined CSI’s Agents of Change: Sustainable Development Goals program in 2020 to improve her entrepreneurial skills and turn her vision into reality.

The federal Government has just annonced guidelines for the Canadian Emergency Rent Subsidy, available to anyone who has lost income with no minimum thresholds. We are hosting a free webinar on Wednesday, December 9th from 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM about qualifying and applying to this program. Click here to register for the event.

CSI RITUALS

The holiday party season is quickly approaching and it’s got us wondering, “What will December be without an epic CSI bash?” CSI is all about community. Gathering is what we do. While we can’t host IRL cocktail/mocktail or cookie competitions this year, or dance in the Annex Garage all night, we CAN host a blow out, COVID-safe, online, not-Zoom party – CSI-style. But How? With Gather.Town. It’s a virtual gathering space built to mimic real life interactions. Walk up to people and their videos and voices appear on your screen. Walk away and they disappear. Just like real life, almost. We love it, and on Thursday, December 17 (from 5pm to late!) we'll share the spaces we’ve built with you!

Our next Next Economy Conversation is on December 10 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Our CEO Tonya Surman will sit down (virtually, of course!) with Chris Caners, General Manager of SolarShare. SolarShare is a not-for-profit co-operative that owns, finances, and operates 49 solar facilities across Ontario, with more than 1900 members have invested $60 million in local, democratically controlled solar energy assets.

They are hiring a Communications and Content Specialist, to help CSI provide a growing platform for stories and knowledge from our staff, members, partners, and networks. This person will love to write and share compelling, inspirational, and insightful stories with the world. You’re able to draw readers in and give them the news they need.

The City of Toronto is developing a community-based crisis response service that is collaborative, effective, and community-centric. Many Toronto residents access mental health and crisis services. The city is conducting an anonymous survey to learn how you currently access mental health and crisis services -- either for yourself or others -- and how you would prefer to access these services in the future. Your responses will help the city understand how Torontonians are accessing mental health and crisis services in order to inform future interventions.

Join the event, bring a friend, and show elected representatives that for young voters -- the largest voting bloc in the country -- Canada's recovery plan from COVID-19 needs to make our country greener and more just.

The Toronto Environmental Alliances's 2020 Greener City Celebration virtual event on December 8th at 7:30 PM will honour the transformative work happening in Toronto to respond, rebuild, and create a future that is more sustainable and just. The night will shine a spotlight on the organizing and visioning happening in Toronto, highlighting the contributions of workers, community organizers and movement leaders.

OneLifeTools offers tools, games and training that harness the power of storytelling to help people learn more about themselves so they can move forward with a sense of clarity, optimism and motivations and resilience. At various times that week, they are holding an online event called Conversations Matters, to help you connect, reflect, engage – and overcome isolation's mental toll.

Submit a proposal to develop a Social R&D Knowledge Product! Knowledge products are key resources that support the social R&D field and practitioners to learn and apply insights to evolve and expand their practice. We are issuing three requests for proposals for $10k-$25k projects: Equitable Social R&D RFP, Accessibility of Social R&D RFP, and Open call RFP.
