Our new Downtown Winter Shelter is both nondescript and a landmark. Located in the vacant Greyhound Bus Station, the challenge to opening this shelter was, as Jordan, Shift Supervisor explains, “making this huge space as welcoming and homey as possible.” Serving 90 individuals experiencing homelessness, this shelter prioritizes individuals located in Old Town, people 55 and older, those with disabilities, and Veterans. >> Learn more

Wanda originally came to Portland to help her son, who suffers from a severe mental illness. "I was staying in a hotel," she explains, "but, when my money ran out, I ran out of options, so I set up camp downtown." Then, she heard about Transition Projects and the support our agency offered. "Being here, at the Downtown Winter Shelter, is like a blessing," she says

Join us for the 2021 IMPACT Gala on Saturday, April 3, 2021, a virtual celebration showcasing the impact of community support for people experiencing homelessness as they make their way home. This year’s event - held in the comfort of your home - will include:

  • A specialty cocktail and mixologist experience
  • A 3-course catered dinner created and delivered to your home by ChefStable Catering
  • Superb Oregon wines provided by Grouchau Cellars and Winderlea Vineyard & Winery
  • An exciting auction offering the best in local and national travel, culinary, and regional experiences
  • The inspiring voices of those who have successfully moved from homelessness to housing
This year, we set out to raise $50,000 through the Give!Guide. Because of support from donors like you, we raised over $112,000 - more than doubling our goal! Collectively, Portlanders raised over $6 million for community-based non-profits through this campaign. Thanks to each and every person who donated. These funds will go right to work supporting programs and resources for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Miss the Give!Guide? Don't worry - we accept donations year-round!

A huge thanks to Amazon, one of our premier community sponsors. From helping us meet the everyday needs of the community members we serve to sponsoring our Portland Veterans Stand Down, Amazon is always here to help our agency. We're so appreciative of their support!

Volunteers make so much happen at our agency! Each year, they provide over 100,000 meals, host over 50 donation drives, and spend countless hours sorting mail. Incredibly, our amazing volunteers often thank us for providing opportunities to help. Each week, we receive notes like the ones included below from our community of supporters that make our days brighter. To all of the volunteers who give their time and resources to support our participants, thank you for being a positive force in our community!

"Our kids had the best time cooking - thank you for providing an opportunity for us to teach them about kindness!" -Katie LaRosa

"Thank you for allowing our church to take part in providing meals. We get joy through feeding the community." -Pastor Maytrone Clayborn, New Joy Tabernacle Church

"Collecting socks for our neighbors experiencing homelessness is an easy way for us to support our community." -Bob Howard, Artichoke Music
