“Christian Nationalism, Anti-Asian Racism, & Asian American Resistance”
by Dr. Russell Jeung, San Francisco State University
In this talk sponsored by the Purdue Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center and the Center on Religion and the Global East, Dr. Russell Jeung (San Francisco State University) shared data from his project called Stop AAPI Hate, which tracks Covid-19 related discrimination in order to develop community resources and policy interventions to fight racism. Dr. Jeung also discussed the history of anti-Asian racism in the U.S., its connections to Christian nationalism, and contemporary resistance responses by Asian American communities.
In a recent podcast episode by The National Museium of American Religion, host Chris Stevenson and a panel of guests (including Fenggang Yang) discuss the role of religion in American immigration. Their conversation covered topics such as the experiences of Jewish immigrants, immigrants in Catholic and Mainline churches, Hmong refugees, and Asian Americans.
