Dr. Tanis Dingle is involved in the development of a new Antimicrobial Susceptibility Course at the University of British Columbia. The team overseeing the course is seeking 1 to 2 Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to lead the One Health AMR module. Vaccination urged as COVID-19, flu shot bookings open in Alberta
Daniel Gregson
Albertans are being urged to roll up their sleeves and get their updated vaccine, as doctors warn of another COVID-19 wave. "We're having a rise in hospital admissions already. And we now have admitted as many as we did in late spring of this year...so things are going back up," said Dr. Daniel Gregson, an infectious disease specialist with UCalgary. While it's difficult to predict COVID trends, Gregson has one key worry. "I'm concerned that we won't get everybody vaccinated that needs to be vaccinated and that will lead to our hospitals being full," he said. Click here to read more.

Researchers tackling surveillance of infection after cardiac implantable electronic device implantation

Dr. Elissa Rennert-May, infectious diseases physician, says although Calgary has implemented a gold standard of infection surveillance for patients who have undergone CIED surgery, the cost of implementing such a program is prohibitive for most centres in Canada. Dr. Rennert-May partnered with Dr. Jenine Leal, a research scientist working in Infection Prevention and Control, and cardiologist and researcher Dr. Derek Chew to tackle the problem of a lack of surveillance across the country. The Globalink Research Award (GRA) supports international research collaborations (academic) between Canada and eligible countries and regions. NSERC-SSHRC Sustainable agriculture research initiative
This initiative will fund multidisciplinary, collaborative networks of researchers to address specific research objectives by initiating or accelerating the development of truly transformative solutions, and by mobilizing expertise, technologies and research in social sciences, natural sciences and engineering and in areas that broaden the traditional network of agriculture research partners. Grant support from this initiative will range from $500K to $2M per year for 4 years. NSERC and SSHRC will provide support for 100% of the eligible costs of research. For more info please click here.
