Council news...
Elected Members took part in the monthly Council meeting on 17 October, 2023. Items of business included:
  • Adoption of the Animal Management Plan 2024-2029.
  • Updates to the Kerbside Waste, Recycling & Green Organics Collection Service.
  • Updates to the Development Assessment Fee Waiver and Refund Policies.
  • A 21-year lease granted to the Border Downs Football Club.
Reports were also presented on the Meningie Pelican Sculpture and Tailem Bend Rail Carriages, with the pelican finding a new home with Coorong Cottage Industries at Meningie and the disposal of the rail carriages at Tailem Bend proceeding now through the issuing of a tender process.

Council Members approved a submission to the State Government for the advocating of the inclusion of Tailem Bend and Wellington East as strong growth areas within the updated plan. This is due to Council’s Growth Strategy identifies the growth dynamics of Mt Barker and Murray Bridge and the high likelihood that Tailem Bend will also experience very strong growth, largely due to its proximity and connection to these two centres.

Health and Wellbeing
Lead Poisoning Prevention

Buildings and homes built before 1980 may contain lead-based paint. If you live or spend time in them, you may be at risk if the paint begins to deteriorate or is disturbed while renovating, restoring or repainting.

While modern paint contains little to no lead, paint prior to 1970 could contain up to 50% lead. It is important to regularly assess the condition of the paint and take action if needed, to help minimise risks to you, your family and vulnerable people.

If you’re unsure consult a painting contractor. They can inspect the surface and advise on next steps.

Fight the Bite: How to correctly apply Mozzie repellent
Mosquitoes can be a nuisance, but some can also spread serious diseases when they bite.
Mosquito-borne diseases spread in South Australia include Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus and Japanese Encephalitis virus, among others. An important step to protecting yourself and your family is to avoid being bitten.

Coming into the warmer weather, it is important to remain vigilant when heading outside to avoid those pesky mosquitoes.

Using mosquito repellent is a simple thing you can do to protect yourself. Use a product that contains 𝘿𝙀𝙀𝙏, 𝙋𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣  or 𝙊𝙞𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙀𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙩𝙥𝙪𝙨

When applying repellent make sure you apply it evenly to all areas of exposed skin, apply it after sunscreen and regularly re-apply as directed.
