Dear Friend,
How are you? Are you doing okay? It's been a heartbreaking week, a heartbreaking month.

But there is hope. When the news become too dispiriting to bear, I turn to my North Star: the voices of children. They inspire me and keep Book Harvest moving forward, one book and one big dream at a time.

Recently we invited our young friends Yuriko, Duncan, P.J., Ari, and Josephine to Book Harvest to speak with broadcast journalist Margaret Larson about their love of books and reading. Please enjoy this short video, filmed in our Family Space in Durham. I hope it brings a sparkle to your day!
With hope,

Ginger Young,
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
P.S. Earlier this year we were awarded the Best Kids Nonprofit in Durham County. Now INDY Week is running a Best of the Best competition and we're nominated for Best Kids Nonprofit in the Triangle! You can vote for us here.

___

Is there a book that you saw yourself reflected in as a child? Or one that opened new worlds for you?

I benefited greatly from books that focused on the courage of young girls, especially the ones who had to transcend self-doubt. "Anne of Green Gables," "The Witch of Blackbird Pond," and "Number the Stars" all made a big impression on me for that reason.
