On Tuesday night, as Mayor, I will be issuing three proclamations that acknowledge various histories, celebrate diverse populations and promote inclusive communities. The proclamations recognize:
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
National Native American Heritage Month
United Against Hate Week
In these times of growing divisiveness, let's work together to ensure that Menlo Park is a place where all residents feel welcome and safe.
G1. Provide direction regarding operational expenditures and potential revenue sources to support Menlo Park Community Campus opening and ongoing operations.
The opening of the Menlo Park Community Campus in the Belle Haven neighborhood is getting closer (currently planned for mid-2024)! While the construction funding for the new center has been accounted for, the financing of ongoing operational expenses still needs to be worked out. Agenda Item G1 outlines three staffing level/service level options and their associated costs (see summary chart above). The first option, with the highest cost, would meet the quality of services envisioned by the community, while the other options have progressively lower costs and service levels. The staff report for this item also includes a discussion of a possible revenue source to cover the new expenses.
G2. Provide direction on the Vision Zero Action Plan.
The October 24th agenda included an informational item (M3) that previewed Tuesday's Agenda Item G2 about the Vision Zero Action Plan (VZAP). The current staff report builds off the October 24th item and outlines the VZAP, which will implement the City's Vision Zero policy - to eliminate road fatalities and reduce collisions by 50% by 2030. Tuesday's item identifies priority projects and includes a detailed action plan with recommended timeframes for implementation. There is a tight timeline for the City to complete the VZAP in order to secure grants, including $5 million in funding for the Middle Avenue Caltrain crossing project.
