Under the guidance of Laurent Champs, Vilmart has become the most stylishly self-assured of all the grower-champagnes. The wines are dramatically polished. They are rich and vinous, yet seductively fragrant and intense across the entire range. They are hard not to like, and as such, they are crowd-pleasers, but they are above all impressively serious champagnes.
The entry-level Grande Reserve and the Grand Cellier make complete nonsense of all the grandes marques at that price level. To those who are used to being served Cliquot, they are a jaw-dropping initiation into a new world.
At the high end, the vintage wines are delightfully fine, yet opulently ostentatious at the same time. They are amazing and unforgettable wines.
If you only have room for one grower-champagne, or indeed just one champagne at all in your cellar, it should be Vilmart.

Coeur de Cuvee 2014

94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Brut Coeur de Cuvée impresses with its density and overall energy. Apricot, baked apple tart, spice, chamomile and lightly honeyed accents all meld together. The 2014 is deep and beautifully centered, with tons of poise and impeccable balance. It's a pretty big wine by Vilmart standards, and yet all the elements are so well put together. The blend is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. Disgorged: March, 2021. (Drink between 2022-2030)"
Brut Grand Cellier NV

92 points Vinous: "The NV Brut Grand Cellier is bright, effusive and wonderfully charming. White flowers, chalk, mint and lemon confit give this mid-weight, nervy Champagne tons of energy. All the elements are so nicely put together. I especially like the energy and crystalline purity here. There are a lot of terrific wines in this range, but the Grand Cellier is quintessentially Vilmart. This release is based on 2019, with the addition of reserve wines from 2018. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2022. (Drink between 2024-2034)"

90 points Vinous: "The NV Grande Reserve, based on 2020, with reserve wines from 2019 and 2018, is a gorgeous entry-level offering from Vilmart. Fresh, vibrant and nuanced, the Grande Reserve has so much to offer. Pinot Noir drives the blend, but as always, the Grande Reserve is nicely sculpted and full of energy. Red-fleshed fruit, lemon confit, crushed flowers, dried herbs and chamomile are nicely pushed forward. There's lovely complexity and depth here. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2022. Grand Cellier d'Or 2018

93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Brut Grand Cellier d'Or is surprisingly vibrant for the year. Light hints of tropical fruit are the only clue this is a warm vintage. Otherwise, the 2018 retains terrific freshness. Lemon confit, mint, white flowers, salt and crushed rocks all run through the 2018. I would prefer to cellar this for a few years. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2022. (Drink between 2023-2030)"
