Alberta doctors warn of symptoms as strep A cases across country break records

Health experts across the province are sounding the alarm after a record increase in strep A infections across the country. According to Dr. Dan Gregson, a UCalgary infectious disease specialist, it’s pretty common for school-aged kids to get Group A strep in their throats. In adults, it quite often shows up as a skin infection. But, Gregson says the bigger problem is when the bacteria spread beyond the typical places. To read the full article click here

Digital dermatitis (DD) is a skin disease in cattle characterized by painful inflammatory ulcerative lesions in the feet, mostly associated with local colonization by Treponema spp., including Treponema phagedenis. This manuscript describes the role of macrophages in the skin of cattle afflicted by lameness digital dermatitis. To read the abstract click here.

Mourou-Strickland Program (for researchers)

This initiative is designed by the French Embassy in Canada with the aim to foster research collaboration between France and Canada, and encourage the discovery of specific research and innovation ecosystems in both countries. The program provides seed grants to encourage new cross-border bilateral cooperation and knowledge exchange, and could leverage new projects with the perspective of setting up a consortium to apply to the Horizon Europe program. Application deadline is Feb 4, 2024. For more info click here

AMR Interventions 2024

JPIAMR is launching an international call for projects under the umbrella of JPIAMR and within the framework of the ERA-NET JPIAMR-ACTION. The call Interventions moving forward to promote action to counteract the emergence and spread of bacterial and fungal resistance and to improve treatments will involve 21 funders from 19 countries.
