It is hard to explain the sudden meteoric rise of this old and supremely traditional, long-established family winery, located in the unfashionable backwater of Verduno, a tiny village on the very edge of the Barolo zone; beyond the very simple explanation that winemaker Fabio Alessandria is producing exceptionally beautiful editions of some of Barolo's very finest crus.
Fabio's examples of Cannubi and Verduno's own, Monvigliero, are now the versions to have from those two elite 'grand crus.'
We are able to offer a little of each, from most of the top recent vintages, at excellent prices, after securing this small allocation from our favorite agent on the ground in Piemonte.
They are no longer cheap but they are both rare and fantastic. The near manic praise of critics Antonio Galloni and Monica Larner is not out of place, their effusion simply reflects the adoration many Barolo lovers already feel for Fabio's wines.
