This week at Southpoint     I    Thursday, April 4, 2024

Communion is not an obligation, but a celebration. Communion celebrates the Gospel: Jesus was broken for us so that we can be fixed by Him. Celebrating communion marks the story of Jesus, how He gave Himself completely to give us a better life, a new start, and a fresh relationship with God (1 Peter 3:18). For a meaningful commemoration of Jesus’ sacrifice, Seventh-day Adventists follow the Apostle Paul’s guidance in 1 Corinthians 11 to prepare our hearts with self-examination (vs. 27). He cautions that “whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 11:27, ESV).

While this verse feels stern, all Paul is pointing out is that this is a consecrated time of reflection to take seriously.  “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup,” he continued in verse 28.

Communion is the perfect time to be thinking about how we can grow in Christ and best honor Him with our lives. If we’re living in faith of what Jesus did and continues to do for us, He counts us as worthy. He wants us to joyfully celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

It’s a privilege to be part of this proclamation. Jesus, our Savior, has given the opportunity for salvation to every person. By His perfect life, His sacrificial death, and His resurrection, we are invited to come to His table, experience His love, and be saved for eternity.  Over the next 24-48 hours, let's prayerfully consider the awesome sacrifice Christ made for us, and come prepared this Sabbath to celebrate the Ordinance of Humility and Communion Service with our Southpoint family.

PRAYER MINISTRY

"To Him Who Keeps You from Stumbling"

Jude praises God, for it is God who can keep us from falling away from His fellowship, so that we can stand before Him one day without blame and with deep happiness, rather than shame.  It is God who has saved us, through His Son, Jesus Christ.  He deserves all glory forever.  He is sovereign over all things throughout all of time.

Jude just warned believers who try to shore up the faith of those who stumbled to do so "with fear" lest they themselves stumble.  But the thing they can lean on is not their own strength.  Rather it is God, who is able to keep them from stumbling.  This is a great comfort, that this great endeavor of contending for the faith is not something we do alone. It is something we do in the power of God.

It is God who has redeemed us from the penalty of sin, which separates us from a relationship with Him.  God reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ our Lord who bore the sins of this world that we might become the righteousness of God.

Join the Southpoint Prayer Team on Thursdays at 7:30pm and on Sabbath at 3:00pm and 6:00pm for praise, prayer, and worship.
