This is a reminder that each AMR - One Health Consortium project is required to provide specific project data for the final Progress Report for the Major Innovation Fund. If you are a PI or Co-I that is responsible for providing this information, please complete the shared template using the link that was emailed to you for the fiscal year April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. The deadline to complete the survey is Monday, July 15th, 2024. If you have any questions please email amronehealth@ucalgary.ca.

Over $22M in funding awarded to 130 UCalgary faculty members as part of federal investment

Congratulations to Consortium members Eduardo Cobo, Alexei Savchenko and Jeroen De Buck, who are amongst the University of Calgary researchers awarded with a collective 5-year Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grant totaling just over $2,000,000. This significant achievement underscores their exceptional research contributions and dedication to advancing knowledge in their respective fields.

Attention Canadian veterinarians and dog owners! Canine leishmaniosis study
Researchers in the AEROH Laboratory are conducting two observational studies (cross-sectional and case series) on canine leishmaniosis in dogs imported into Canada, to understand prevalence, risk factors for disease, and prognosis of dogs diagnosed with disease. They are recruiting dog owners for the studies but are also targeting veterinary clinics in hopes they can share and promote their study within their practice. Participation for owners and veterinarians in the study is voluntary. The laboratory will cover the cost of testing, and for the case series study, they are offering an honorarium to participating veterinarians. Click here for more info.

Results Driven Agriculture Research – Genome Alberta: Accelerating Agriculture Innovation One Health Solutions
This funding investment aims to support research projects that utilize genomic-enabled technologies, which offer collaborative, effective and cost-efficient approaches, to provide solutions to One Health challenges and benefit to Alberta producers. This call seeks to address the priority issues of Chronic Wasting Disease, Feral Pigs, African Swine Fever, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Livestock through a One Health approach. Dr. Gregory D. Bossart Memorial One Health Scholarship
This scholarship is for currently enrolled ‘individual’ graduate students doing research in wildlife biology, epidemiology, veterinary, medical, public health, basic or social sciences or other program focusing on the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment using a One Health framework. The student - led research ‘project’ is the critical element for which this scholarship is awarded. Award funds totaling $5K USD will go directly to the student and may go toward the research or travel related to the project. For more info please click here.
