All changes are published immediately following their approval by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), on the FIA website at fia.com.

We appreciate that these updates can sometimes go unnoticed for some motor sport stakeholders, thus the Safety Department has decided to release this ASN Safety Bulletin, highlighting some of the important updates which will be introduced for 2025 regarding international driver’s licence requirements, competitor and vehicle safety equipment and medical and rescue regulations.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and further updates may be published before December 2024, if approved by the WMSC. Therefore, we recommend that motor sport stakeholders be on the lookout for updates, which can be published following the World Motor Sport Council meetings in October and December. Any updates will be published at the earliest opportunity on fia.com.

Chapter III “Drivers’ Equipment” of Appendix L to the International Sporting Code – Last update 11.06.2024

• Article 1 “Helmets”

New recognised FIA Helmet Standard to be used with Frontal Head Restraint System (FHR) was added to Appendix L:
- FIA Standard 8859-2024 Premium Helmets (Technical List N°107)

• Article 2 “Flame-resistant clothing”

Mandatory implementation of FIA Standard 8856-2018 for the following championships:
- FIA European Rally Championship, for all drivers (and accompanying co-drivers) 

Mandatory usage of gloves with knuckle protections in the following championships:
- Formula E (from Season 11 onwards)

Supplement 2 of Appendix L to the International Sporting Code – Last update 20.06.2023

The World Accident Data Base (WADB) Declaration of Consent was updated to increase transparency for the competitors. There is no change in the WADB itself.
 
Technical List N°25 – Recognised Standards for Helmets
Technical list n°25 will be updated to be in accordance with Appendix L, Chapter III, Article 1.1.

All Helmets certified according to FIA Standard 8859-2024 will be recognised by the FIA.
 
Article 7: Driver Safety Equipment in Karting Technical Regulations

• FIA Standard 8877-2022 for Karting Clothing:

Karting Gloves and karting shoes approved according to FIA Standard 8877-2022 are mandatory to use for FIA Karting Championships, Cups and Trophies, and all Karting competitions on the FIA International Sporting Callendar.

It is mandatory to use Karting Overalls according to either:

• Level 2 of the CIK-FIA Standard 2013-1 (accepted during their useful life, which is indicated on the label of the overalls, but not beyond 31.12.2029);
• Grade 1 or Grade 2 according to FIA Standard 8877-2022 (mandatory from 01.01.2030).

For competitions in long circuits (motorsport circuits) it is mandatory to use either:

• Leather overalls complying with FIM Standards (1.2mm thickness);
• Grade 2 according to FIA Standard 8877-2022.

Vehicle Safety Equipment

• FIA Standard 8864-2022 for Restraint Cables:
  • Recommended in World Endurance LMH vehicles.

• FIA Standard 8865-2015 for Plumbed-in Extinguishers:
  • Recommended in ETRC Trucks.

• FIA Standard 8855-2021 for Competition Seats:
  • Recommended for ETRC Trucks.

• 2^nd Hand-Held Extinguisher According to Appendix J Article 253-7.3
  • Mandatory for all card in FIA Cross Country Championships.

 
Appendix H to the International Sporting Code – Last update 11.06.2024

• Supplement 3 – Article 5 “Equipment for technical rescue”:

Update of the requirements in order for the rescue process to be carried out safely and expediently including update of the EN standard.
