Every day VVA Chapter 1048 aggressively advocates on issues important to veterans such as seeking full access to quality health care for veterans. Identifying the full range of disabling injuries and illnesses incurred during military service. Hold government agencies accountable for following laws mandating veterans' health care. Creating a positive public perception of Vietnam veterans and seeking the fullest possible accounting of America's POW/MIA and supporting the next generation of America's war veterans and serving our communities.

September brought us another busy month and a Hurricane for the state of
Florida. Just in time to welcome many of our Snowbirds back. The General
Meeting for September had Bob Watson from the County VSO office to help us
understand the Pact Act that just recently went into effect. He also gave the
members a better understanding of the Camp Lejeune water law suit.
I presented on the floor an amendment to change the percentage of a Quorum in
our By-Laws to a number and at the October meeting we will discuss the number
and bring it to a vote. We are a growing Chapter and it needs to change to keep
up with the amount, of members attending. We turned in ten new applications to
National for approval this month.
Honor Guard preforming with Bugle at Halifax Hospice in Ormond Beach for
POW/MIA. Gerald Bosarth, Cathy and myself attend the ceremony for POW/MIA
at the national site witch, is under construction at Cecil Fields in Jacksonville. The
Honor Guard presented the Colors at the Funeral of John Brinkley founder of the
new Veterans Museum and Education Center.
The cemetery detail made several trips to do clean up at the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
There are many large branches falling and with getting rain we needed to weed
whack two different times. Jerome is filling his trailer every Tuesday with debris.
We set up our tent at the Remembering Heroes Festival in Palm Coast. We were
looking for new membership and I think we did good. There are a lot of Veterans
in Flagler County and I believe they were all in the Navy.
Cathy and Sheila have the Christmas Party lined up at the VFW 3282 for
December 8 th . Donation is 10.00 dollars for white table cloths, dinner, music and
dancing. Tickets are available starting October 1 st . Donation is per person.
Wreaths Across America will be December 17 th at 1200 hours this year. JB
Brownell has us lined up at Margaritaville Oct. 24 th for fundraising and
membership drive. We were in the cemetery working this month a lady drove in
and gave me a generous donation to the WAA to kick off our fundraiser.
I want to thank John McGinty our state President for attending the AVVA meeting
with members of state AVVA members in presenting Diana with National Member
of the Year.
Call to Honor #31 for MIAP will be October 27 th 1000 hours at the South Florida
National Cemetery. 18 Veterans and 6 Veteran spouses will be interred.
The Education Team met the new Principal at Oak Ridge H. S. Mr. Paul Nehrig this
month and between him and Maj. White they gave us over one thousand
students to educate about the war and the sixties. Bob Roos joined us for his first
time and was so impressed he joined the Team.
October meeting will be held October 20 th at the VFW 3282 please attend and
bring a Veteran with you. The goal of 330 by the end of year we can make with
you help. Stay safe be well and help whenever you can.

Our AVVA membership is now at 50 with 27 Lifetime members.
We received another nice thank you letter from Emory L Bennett Nursing Home. Our group put together “snack bags” for our brothers and sisters. We had a drink, cookies, cupcakes, chips, and fruit bites. The card read, “I’m at the Veteran’s Home in Daytona Beach for rehab. It was such a pleasant surprise to receive your card and care package. It brightened my day and I wanted to say thank you.” Stephen USN ADJ3 68-72.
We had a very successful AVVA meeting with guests that included VVA State President, John McGinty, Region 4 Director Joanne and spouse Jerry Blum, Region 4 Deputy Director Mary Anne Newman, and AVVA State President Kim Biddle. They were here to present the National AVVA Member of the Year Award. On behalf of the fantastic AVVA team, I proudly accepted the Award. This is truly a TEAM effort for our AVVA. We have a terrific group that loves its veterans.
We are working on making a quilt as a fundraiser for Vietnam Day on March 29. We had Penny from Racing Fingers Quilt Guild who spoke to the group about how easy and fun this quilt project will be. We anxiously look forward to getting started.
Also this month we celebrated the life of John Brinkley who was the founder of the Veterans Museum and Education Center. He was very pleased with our Vietnam area and entrusted us with the care of the collection.
Next month will be the State VVA/AVVA meeting. I will have a report for next month. Our next AVVA meeting will be on November 14 at Houligan’s on International Speedway Blvd. Spouses are always welcome to join us.
As I write this, we are all hunkered down in preparation for Hurricane Ian. After waiting 10 days it is finally approaching us. It’s time to think about how quickly things can change.
We can not take for granted those who are so special to us. Material things can be replaced, but
our family and friends can not. Do what you need to do to ride this out. We pray for the safety of our family, our friends, and our community.

2 Cor 3:17 "For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit or the Lord is, there is freedom." We all know that "Freedom is not Free," freedom from dictators, bad monarchs, or any evil government. But, Apostle Paul wasn't talking about freedom from earthly things...he was talking about freedom from sin. If we go to the Lord our Savior, we can have that freedom from sin and it hasn't cost us anything. It is freely given to us by God's gracious gift through His son.
- Please keep Larry Bodschelne's healing in your prayers...he was in the hospital. Pray for Dennis Wellington who is healing from knee surgery.
We lost MSgt Raymond "Rocky" Sircusa on 15 Aug 2022. Services were held last month.
- Vietnam Veteran Kieth Colville (former 1048 member) died from his Agent Orange-related illnesses last week. There will not be a service for him per his wishes. Please pray for his wife Kelly and his children James, Ashley & Amber.
Yogi Berra said, "Go to other people's funerals or they won't go to yours."

In Florida, we are changing the narrative of mental health – especially when it comes to preventing suicide among service members, Veterans, and their families. From Florida’s 21 military bases to our 1.5 million Veterans, the Governor’s Challenge supports efforts to use evidence-based practices to prevent suicide among our service members, Veterans, and their families.
|
|
In order to succeed, we need individuals, organizations, and entire communities to join us in accepting this challenge to reduce the Veteran suicide rate because we know Veterans are the strength of our nation.
