Dear Friends,

As the New Year begins, I like many of you, reflect on the year past. It's a time for review, reflection, and reset. However you go about this reflection is personal, but if you've not yet made it a part of your life, I hope you will choose this year to make it one of your habits. Personally, I use a mix of journaling, photographic records, and focused reflection to think about the year that has gone by, and to set goals for the coming year.

For 2023, I've decided on the mantra:

It will be interesting to see how well this serves over the coming year. If you have set your own goals or motto for the coming year, I'd love to hear from you and possibly share your idea in a future Newsletter.

With that said...  Let's get started!

Some of you have asked why we don't have an online library of previous NeuroRounds events. It's intentional. NeuroRounds is intended to provide a learning environment for med students, pre-med, and other healthcare professionals. I believe the live, interactive method we use is closest to the reality of medical practice and accordingly a good way to learn. Medicine doesn't happen on a schedule. When a doctor walks into an ER, no one has suggested reading up on a particular type of case that he or she will encounter on that day. That's why NeuroRounds is designed as a live event.

Nonetheless..., it got me thinking. Could we occasionally take segments from NeuroRounds and share them; both as a taste of what NeuroRounds offers to attendees, and as small bite-sized chunks of information? Turns out the answer was yes.

Here's our very first NeuroRounds Teaching Moment. The video is a little over 4 and a half minutes long and does a brief overview of brain bleeds and their appearance on medical imaging. I encourage you to have a look and think about whether you or someone you know should be participating in our future events. Look at the end of this Newsletter to see how to obtain an invitation.

After you watch, please be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel to see future videos on topics as diverse as wrestling, neurosurgery, coaching, book reviews  and more.

A Personal Note

2022 marked the 30th Anniversary of Julie and I being married.

One word - Grateful!

Thank you to everyone who was a part of the celebration.
Special Guest Coach!
On December 22nd, I was thrilled to be joined by son Patrick who served as a guest coach at the Princeton Wrestling Club.

It would be an understatement to say that this was #puregold. I first became involved with the club in 2002 when it was still known as PAWS (Princeton Amateur Wrestling Society). Patrick wrestled with PAWS way back then.

This proud father is grateful for the memories of then, the memories of now, and this grand circle of life that surrounds us.

In The News

January 8, 2023 marked the successful completion of the first wrestling event of the year for Trenton Youth Wrestling. Hear my thoughts on the event and follow on Instagram.

You can also visit Trenton Youth Wrestling to learn more about and support their mission.

Throughout November of last year, we published the 3 episodes of A Ukraine Story : Reflections and Moments of Mercy.

All episodes appear on my website and can be viewed in whatever order you choose. I hope you will take the opportunity to watch and reflect on what these videos tell us about the human condition. They are particularly timely as the conflict continues between Ukraine and Russia. Episode 2 is the climax of the story.

The classroom secret is revealed.
The family flees their Ukraine home.
They are discovered.

Watch Episode Two "May God Be With You"
