By Robert Wagner, director of visual and performing arts

I recently attended the National Association of Independent Schools’ annual conference and enjoyed hearing keynote speaker Tracy Dennis-Tiwary, Ph.D., advocate for experiencing anxiety rather than avoiding it. As a neuroscientist and clinical psychologist, she draws on research and personal experiences to make a case for the power of anxiety. I left the keynote saying the same thing to anyone that would stop to listen, “This talk is scientific proof of the power of arts in education.”

Building Toolboxes for Success in a Diverse World
By Kristy King, director of the learning resource center

In the Learning Resource Center, we frequently talk about students building “toolboxes” to help them find their individual success and leverage their unique qualities. Helping students develop the metacognitive skills to understand how their brains work allows them to fill their own toolboxes independently.
