It has been a busy and fruitful spring for us at PSD! This month, we bring news of a new partnership with Odisha FC, our Founder-Director’s appearance on the new sport for development podcast, Inspira, and a new collaboration with the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA).
We also highlight a new series of initiatives in honour of our supporter Sumona Dasgupta's late son, our social media initiative to celebrate Women’s History Month, and our participation in a webinar on the sport for development sector in India.

Highlights of the Month

We are excited to announce a new partnership with Odisha FC, and have come on board as their Grassroots Football Partner. Through this partnership, we aim to build grassroots participation in football among the children and youth in Odisha.
On 25th March, Odisha FC conducted the first in a series of several workshops by providing PSD coaches with knowledge and training resources to improve their football specific delivery.

PSD’s Founder-Director, Suheil F. Tandon, was featured in a recent episode of the Inspira podcast, as he and the host, Erika Mueller Chen, discussed the inception of PSD, our work, the relevance of sport for development, and how to start your career in this sector.

We are pleased to announce another partnership with the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Arts (CEMCA). As part of this collaboration, we will create a massive open online course (MOOC) on developing essential 21st century skills through sport and physical activity. As a first step, we held online and in-person consultations with different stakeholders to understand what components the course should have.

Partnering with long time supporter, Sumona Dasgupta, PSD will be organizing a series of initiatives with select participants from Bhubaneswar, in memory of Ms Dasgupta’s late son, Upamanyu Mallik, an ardent cricket fan. Initiatives will include a leadership and confidence-building camp, and a cricket tournament.

To mark Women’s History Month, PSD held a social media campaign to highlight prominent women in the sport for development sector. The three women highlighted were Sana Mahmud, a former athlete who works as a Program Manager in a non-profit organization based out of Pakistan; Marisa Schlenker, a former professional footballer who works as a sports coach and Mariam Ibrahim, also a former professional footballer who now serves as a gender specialist at GIZ.

On 16th March, PSD attended a webinar hosted by the Sports and Society Accelerator, to promote collaborations amongst various sectors in sports and attain universal participation in sports by 2047. Suheil F. Tandon emphasized the need for more robust research within the sector in his comments during the webinar.

Sport has an integral role to play in promoting happiness, mental health, and wellbeing, as highlighted by our Project Officer Kumben Aier, to mark the International Day of Happiness.

Celebrating International Women’s Day, our intern Palakh Saldhi writes about the different ways in which participation in sport can benefit girls and women, as witnessed by participants of our Community Sports Program.
