Dear Friend,
It happened again last night as I was sitting down to dinner: another text from a delighted friend who had seen Book Harvest rolling around Durham!

Perhaps you have seen us too, on city buses:
Or on our very own box truck, which my colleague June Neese drives all over Durham every week to restock our 31 (and counting!) Book Boxes
Durham is truly the City of Books!

But guess what? Our flagship community of Durham is not the only place that Book Harvest is showing up. Check out the six other locations where we are spreading book joy to newborns, kids, and families, in collaboration with trusted local partners (looking at you with immense gratitude, Imprints Cares, Vance Family Medicine, Coharie Tribal Center, Jimmy’s Barber and Beauty Salon, Bladen and Columbus County Schools, and Ready for School/Ready for Life, among others!).

I have said it many times in this monthly newsletter: Book Harvest’s Big Dream is of a world in which there are
Books for every child
Support for every parent
Literacy for every community
It makes me so proud to see us making inroads toward that dream, working toward a world that does not yet exist but that I know is within reach.

When it comes to literacy equity and book abundance, there is truly nothing we can’t do, together.

2,086,839 books harvested to date – and counting!

Ginger Young,
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
P.S. Is your child a budding book enthusiast? Do they light up at the sight of a new story? We want to hear from them! We invite your child (ages 4+) to share their love for books and their thoughts about Book Harvest with us. Join us for an exciting day of interviews at the Book Harvest Family Space on September 17, from 12-4 PM. Your child will be interviewed by broadcast journalist Margaret Larson (formerly a correspondent for NBC News), and filmed on camera.

The interviews and video will be used to inspire others and spread the joy of reading! To sign up, visit https://bit.ly/kid-interviews

Who is your favorite all-time character from a book?

...I know as a child when I read ‘The Westing Game,’ I always thought Turtle was such a great character. Also, Kate from the ‘Perilous Gard’ was wonderful too. I always loved that they were both smart and bold, clever and creative. Both Turtle and Kate were gifted at puzzling through puzzling situations...
