2nd Annual Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Symposium

The AMR - One Health Consortium is pleased to announce that it is collaborating with bioMérieux and the Emerging and Pandemic Infections Consortium (EPIC) to bring together stakeholders from the Canadian AMR ecosystem to share their progress in the 'Fight Against AMR'. If you are a PI and are interested in sending your student(s) to the symposium to present a poster, please email amronehealth@ucalgary.ca by Fri Oct 6. Spots are limited and PIs will need to cover travel and accommodation.

96 lab-confirmed cases linked to E. coli at Calgary daycares, 22 kids in hospital: AHS

There are now 96 lab-confirmed cases linked to the current E. coli outbreak in Calgary daycare centres, Alberta Health Services said Wednesday. Dr. Lynora Saxinger, an infectious diseases specialist at the University of Alberta, said that while STEC E. coli isn't necessarily rare — there are cases reported every year — the fact that the disease has infected a vulnerable population makes the situation more of a concern. Click here to read more.
 

5 faculty members named to College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists

Congratulations to AMR - One Health Consortium members Marie-Claire Arrieta and Joe Harrison, for being named to The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. This is the greatest number of college members to be elected in one year at the university. The college recognizes multidisciplinary early-stage career scholars from across the country who have demonstrated a high level of achievement in advancing Canadian intellectual leadership. InnoVet-AMR 2.0 in Food-Producing Animals – Ruminants & Aquaculture

Call for proposals! Innovative Veterinary Solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance (InnoVet-AMR) is a 4 year, $26.3M partnership between IDRC and the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). The initiative is aimed at reducing the emerging risk that AMR in animals poses to global health and food security. A series of grants of up to $1.6M will be issued. The project duration will not exceed 32 months, including the time required for project set-up, research activities and final reporting. NSERC-SSHRC

NSERC-SSHRC Sustainable agriculture research initiative

This initiative will fund multidisciplinary, collaborative networks of researchers to address specific research objectives by initiating or accelerating the development of truly transformative solutions, and by mobilizing expertise, technologies and research in social sciences, natural sciences and engineering and in areas that broaden the traditional network of agriculture research partners. Grant support from this initiative will range from $500K to $2M per year for 4 years. NSERC and SSHRC will provide support for 100% of the eligible costs of research. For more info please click here
