Challenge Course dedication today
SWU’s new challenge course, located in the Hundred Acre Wood, will be dedicated this morning during chapel time. This will be the divisional chapel for Social Science and Religion. A Hayride to the course will leave from the Newby Education Building parking lot at 10 a.m.

In addition to the hayride, a limited number of persons can drive in with trucks or SUVs; however, road conditions will depend on the amount of rainfall received. Contact Roger McKenzie for details at rmckenzie@swu.edu.

Day of Service
Local organizations benefited from the work of student, faculty and staff volunteers during a day of service March 19. Approximately 200 volunteers from the university worked at a dozen sites across Pickens, Oconee and Greenville counties. Read more>>

Rowell recognized as distinguished professor
Dr. Melanie Rowell, associate professor of music, was recognized by the South Carolina Higher Education Foundation as one of 29 Distinguished Professors of 2013 during a luncheon held March 7 in Columbia. For details about the foundation’s programs and events, visit them online at www.sc-hef.org.

SWU student wins half marathon
Congratulations to Josh Thatcher on winning the Seneca Half Marathon March 16. He is a business major from Easley and also a member of the Men’s Cross Country Team.

Preview Day
This past Friday, the Admissions Department hosted a campus preview event for prospective students and their guests. Preview Day is a chance to make great connections with faculty and staff and to get to know the SWU community better. The next Preview Day is scheduled for April 19.

What are They Doing?
Work crews are preparing the area on the west end of campus for the anticipated track and field complex, so the sand volleyball court needs a new home. One section of the tennis court is being converted to a volleyball court. Another section will become a basketball court, while the third section will remain a tennis court. More work will be done to make this an inviting area for students.

Holiday Schedule
Good Friday, a university-wide holiday, is this Friday, March 29. All university offices will be closed and there will be no classes that day. The campus will resume its normal schedule on Monday, April 1.

Kid's Day
The annual Kid’s Day for Southern Wesleyan Baseball is a free event March 30 and April 6 for kids 12 and under. Freebies include admission, drinks and a free gift courtesy of Pizza Pro in Central. Youngsters can take the field with the Warriors during the National Anthem on both dates.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be March 30 between the scheduled doubleheader. Games start at 1 p.m. both dates. Check swuathletics.com for any changes due to weather. For details, contact Mike Gillespie at mgillespie@swu.edu.

Alumni Awards Lunch
The Alumni Association would like to invite all faculty and staff to the 2013 Alumni Awards Lunch, April 13 at Noon at the Founders. Awardees are Col. Junior Leadership Pickens County
SWU alumnus Brian Swords brought a group of 25 high school juniors and seniors for a visit to the university's Central campus March 20. They are part of the Junior Leadership Pickens County group, selected for their leadership abilities.

Athletic Department offers online compliance rules education course
The Southern Wesleyan University Athletic Department has launched an online rules education resource for compliance. This is a free course offered through Udemy.com designed to educate coaches, student-athletes, faculty/staff and the SWU community on the rules and regulations of the NCAA, conference and Southern Wesleyan University.
