1) New Chairperson and Council Member at the PEI Status of Women

Wonderful news! The PEI Status of Women's new Chairperson is returning Council member Mari Basiletti and our newest member is Deborah Langston. Government's news release is at the link below:
Mari, in her new role as Chairperson, wrote a commentary that was published in the Guardian on April 5. A slightly longer version is now available online in English and French on our blog entitled Making History for Women's Equality. It can be viewed at the following link:


 

2) Poetry with Deirdre Kessler in the Children's Library!

April is Poetry Month! To celebrate, Poet Laureate Deirdre Kessler will be visiting the Confederation Centre Public Library's Children's Library to share and create poetry! Saturday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m.!

Deirdre Kessler is a Prince Edward Island-based author of two dozen books for children, young adults, and adults. All Welcome! Any questions can be directed to 902-368-4644.

The Arthritis Society PEI Division is offering a free gardening workshop at the Confederation Centre Public Library, April 12, 2:00 p.m. Please phone 1-800-321-1433 or email info@pe.arthritis.ca to register and learn how to make gardening easier with arthritis!

6) Retraite pour jeunes femmes ... prends le temps pour toi!

Bonjour chères amies et collègues, Je prends cette occasion pour vous inviter à un tout nouveau camp ou retraite pour jeunes femmes âgées entre 18 et 35 ans subventionnée par Actions Femmes Î.-P.-É et le Village des Sources l’Étoile Filante. Si tu dépasses un peu le 35 ans.... je ne me suis pas aperçue.... et nous ne te demanderons pas ta carte d’identité à l’inscription! J

Je pensais que tu serais peut-être intéressée d’y participer afin de tisser des liens d’amitiés, de leadership, de développement personnel et social et de jouir d’une expérience inoubliable entre femmes où le temps s’arrête et que tu puisses bénéficier du plus beau cadeau pour toi! Si tu t’intéresses, tu n’as qu’à remplir la fiche d’inscription et me l’envoyer par courriel avant le mercredi 4 mai 2016.

Je t’invite de partager cette fiche et l’information auprès de tes amies, tes collègues et ta famille ou parenté. Les places sont limitées à 20 femmes, puisque nous souhaitons assurer l’intimité de l’événement.

My Dad Matters - take a good look at engaging fathers

The Welcoming Dads training event is for anyone working with families or who are interested in engaging fathers.  This can include: family support workers, child welfare, children’s mental health, physicians, early years workers, school representatives, YM/WCA, probation, social services, religious communities, physicians, therapists, etc.

8) Etsy Artisans of PEI Spring Market

Etsy Artisans of PEI are back with our biggest & best market yet! Our first 2 day market takes place Saturday, April 23rd (10am-6pm) and April 24th (12-5pm) at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel in downtown Charlottetown. Admission is $4 or $2 with a donation to The Upper Room Hospitality Ministry Inc. Food Bank

Shop in person from over 50 local Etsy sellers from jewelers to potters, soap makers to clothing designers. There will be something for everyone!

9) Inspired City Micro-Grant Fund - Call for Applications

Greetings from the Inspired City!
 
The City of Charlottetown is now accepting applications for the 2016 Community Sustainability Micro-Grant Program.  Grants are available for up to $2,500 to implement a project in Charlottetown that contributes to the City’s sustainability goals.
 
You can find all the information you need to apply, including the application form and frequently asked questions (FAQs), by clicking HERE.  
 
Finalists that are selected based on their application, will be invited to pitch their idea at the Inspired City Pitch Party in May (more details coming soon!).  Attendees will have the chance to vote for their favourite projects and applicants will have the chance to receive one of up to 10 grants!! The application deadline is April 25, 2016 and projects must be completed by December 31, 2016. We’re looking forward to hearing all of your great ideas and supporting you in putting your ideas into action.  Let’s make Charlottetown the best it can be, together!
 


 

10) Nominations for Charlottetown Arts and Culture Awards due in April

The City of Charlottetown will celebrate its artistic and cultural leaders at the Arts and Culture Awards in June. Nominations (including self-nomination by an artist) are being accepted until Friday, April 29 at 12 p.m. (noon).

The awards ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. The event is hosted in Charlottetown every two years and awards are presented in the following categories: Emerging Artist, Artistic Excellence, Lifetime Achievement, Culture Industry and Cultural Event.

Those nominated for an award must live, work or make a substantial contribution to the arts and cultural sector in Charlottetown. For more information about the five categories or to submit a nomination, visit: www.charlottetown.ca and click on the Arts and Culture Awards button.

13) Auction for the Kids Help Phone


April 22 at 9:00am until April 23 at 9:00pm

Hi everyone please join the Auction event page to join in the fun and bid on some great donations made by Island companies. The Auction is set to go live April 22/23 and lots of great donations are rolling in. Join now and get a sneak peak of the items up for grabs. All funds raised will go directly to the kids help phone and the Walk So Kids Can Talk Charlottetown. This Auction will be live at 9 am April 22 2016. Any bids made before the opening will be deleted. Once the auction goes live keep an eye on your bids and be generous. The highest bidder one each item will be messaged shortly after the auction ends to arrange payment and pick up. Payments must be received 24 hours after the end of the auction or item will go to the next highest bidder. Payments can be made in person or email transfer.  Keep checking back for new items.



 

14) Emerging Contemporary Issues in Responding to & Preventing Sexual Violence

“Emerging and Contemporary Issues in Responding to and Preventing Sexual Violence” will be of interest to a wide range of professionals, including police, crown, probation, justice, social workers, guidance counselors, youth workers. This two day conference will be held at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel. Registration includes lunch and breaks. There will be no charge, but pre-registration is necessary to save a seat. You can register for one or both days.

15) Walk So Kids Can Talk - Charlottetown (unofficial)

Join us on May 1st for a 5k walk/run in support of The Kids Help Phone! Our goal is to raise awareness and empower children to take charge of their lives. 

Every day all over the country children reach out to The Kids Help Phone to speak to professional councillor. We encourage you to Be A Hero and help us in our efforts to raise awareness and funds to this amazing community and make sure there is always a Councillor there to answer the call, text or chat.
