Half Term Activities at Big Pit National Coal Museum
The Coity Tip was created during the working life of Big Pit and its predecessor the Coity Pit, which was primarily an ironstone mine. Tips such as these were once a familiar site in industrial communities where waste rock and shale from the mining process was discarded on the surface, altering the landscape and environment forever. When the tipping stopped, nature began to gradually reclaim the tip and surrounding area, which is now rich with plant and animal species.
Come along from Monday 24th October – Friday 28th and have a 'hoot' with us making crafty owls and animal species which you might find today on Coity Tip, plus other autumn-themed crafts. To Book: 02920 573650. Small charge will apply.

Community News

Bethlehem Chapel
In October we are holding a service to include memories of Bethlehem Chapel. We realise there are many people in the town who have had associations with the chapel, perhaps were married there or went to Sunday school or remember the events that took place in the school room?
We want to hear some of your memories and include them in a short service with some traditional hymns followed by a "Sunday school tea" on Sunday October 2nd at 3pm. We would love to hear your memories.
Do join us!
Bethlehem Chapel Christmas Decoration

To book call Anthony on 07824430863 or e-mail- ayresanthon@msn.com

Blaenavon Community Museum wins National Volunteering Award
The volunteers of the Blaenavon Community Museum have been awarded the Marsh Volunteers for Museum Learning Award for both Wales and the United Kingdom. The team was presented with the prestigious awards at the British Museum at a special event held on 26 September attended by representatives from museums across the country. The awards, run in partnership between the Marsh Christian Trust and the British Museum, recognise best practice and the most innovative ways in which volunteers engage the public with collections. The national UK award is presented where a tangible difference to the public offer has been made in a museum and where a unique dimension to that offer has been introduced.
