Seymour Close – Road Access Problems
In our 3rd April 2016 email we first started reporting that Seymour Close could have double yellow lines installed to stop people parking on the corners as this was preventing emergency vehicles from entering the close.

In our 17th July 2016 update we were told that it would be advertised in the next batch of Traffic Regulation Orders (September 2016).

In our 6th November 2016 update we were again promised that Seymour would be included in the next batch of TROs but it was still missed.

This week Roger received the following from Joel Logue, Senior Engineer – Highways, Traffic, Road Safety
Hi Cllr Bailey
I have got confirmation from Martin Wilkinson (who works alongside Caron Archer on the forthcoming consolidation order) and I have been assured that Seymour Close will be part of this order.

As discussed, we have moved to a new system whereby we combine all orders into one advert, and this saves time and money on adverts. The forthcoming consolidation will be advertised before the end of the next financial quarter (end of financial year).

I hope this helps, and apologies for the length of time associated with this TRO – but over time this will significantly improve timescales whilst minimising capital expenditure.

Cheylesmore Residents’ Parking Scheme Petitions
Roger continues to chase for an update on the 7 outstanding petitions in regards to the Cheylesmore Residents Parking Scheme, some dating back to 2015. For a variety of reasons, progress on processing them has been slow, but we are hoping for a conclusion soon.

Roger is disappointed with how long the progression is taking and realises how important the subject is to residents who live in the roads affected by displacement parking.

Queen Isabels Avenue Enforcement Notice - Update
In our 17th April update we reported that an enforcement notice was served against the owners of 9 Queen Isabels Avenue because Coventry City Council had refused planning permission for the conversion of a garage building into living accommodation.
Here is a snippet of what the notice contained:

On the last day of the notice the owner lodged an appeal with the Secretary of State against the decision of Coventry City Council.

For months residents have been asking Roger for an update on this situation which he’s just received.
The owner has won his appeal, so planning permission for the garage conversation has now been granted. Read the appeal decision

Good Neighbours Groups - Clarification
Cheylesmore Good Neighbours has asked us to report that there are 2 different organisations with very similar names.

The group Cheylesmore Good Neighbours was formed in 2013. They hold fortnightly meetings in Quinton Park Baptist Church Hall and also run one-to-one computer lessons with the help of students from Warwick University. Their group is strictly non-denominational and has no links with any one church.

The “Coventry Good Neighbours” scheme is a new initiative developed by local churches (via Hope Coventry and Together for Change) in partnership with Age UK Coventry (AUKC) to improve health and wellbeing amongst older people. Working collaboratively, faith organisations and AUKC are seeking to engage with isolated and lonely older people by developing existing social networks and using existing community resources to enable residents to help each other.

A spokesperson from Cheylesmore Good Neighbours said “It's unfortunate that they have a similar name to our group, which is already causing confusion in the community”.

Whitley Common Bollards Still Missing
Roger continues to chase for these bollards to be replaced as it is putting the common in a vulnerable position with respect to travellers.

Received 26th January from Dave Lewis, Parks Development Officer
Good afternoon Cllr Bailey

The replacement of damaged bollards is managed by Streetpride. I am aware that Tony Dean, Amenities Supervisor is currently on leave. Tony was aware of the issue but I will pass the enquiry onto his manager to ensure that it will not need to be delayed until his return to work.

Cheylesmore Library Volunteers
Great news, a year 10 school girl has just requested to become a weekend library volunteer. We need as broad a spectrum of ages, nationalities and experiences as possible. Thankfully we do have a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteer coordinator in place.

At a recent Council meeting with volunteers from Finham & Earlsdon, it was noted that Cheylesmore could be the first one to become a Community-led Library thanks to the hours of work that the Cheylesmore Community centre has put into the project over the past 2 years. However it’s very important to us volunteers that the current Cheylesmore library staff are not penalised by our efforts. The Library Services assure us that this will not happen.

If you are interested in volunteering then please email: cheylesmore.ward@gmail.com.
The more volunteers that we have then the longer the library opening hours can be.

The cabinet meeting for deciding the future of the libraries & other services has been arranged for Monday, 6th March, 11am at the Council House in Committee Room 2. Documents for this meeting will be published in a few weeks.

Cecily Road (jct of Daventry Road), 21st February to 17th March – Road closure. Reason - Install Cable Duct by BT

Leaf Lane
Hazel Hill a local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator spoke at the JLR Planning committee meeting last week requesting that the outstanding work should be carried out on Leaf Lane: Repairs to broken fences, crash barrier, bollards and pavements.

Hazel’s persistence that the bunds outside the top meadow gate on Leaf Lane has finally paid off, as they’ve been removed. The area looks much improved & it’s hoped it will deter any future fly tipping.

Payment Diversion Alert

Fraudsters are emailing members of the public who are expecting to make a payment for property repairs. The fraudsters will purport to be a tradesman who has recently completed work at the property and use a similar email address to that of the genuine tradesman. They will ask for funds to be transferred via bank transfer. Once payment is made the victims of the scam soon realise they have been deceived when the genuine tradesman requests payment for their services.

Protect yourself
Always check the email address is exactly the same as previous correspondence with the genuine contact.
For any request of payment via email verify the validity of the request with a phone call to the person who carried out the work.
Check the email for spelling and grammar as these signs can indicate that the email is not genuine.
Payments via bank transfer offer no financial protection; consider using alternative methods such as a credit card or PayPal which offer protection and an avenue for recompense.
If you believe that you have been a victim of fraud you can report it online or by telephone 0300 123 2040.
