" Have you ever had that feeling - that you'd like to go to a whole different place, and become a whole different self? "

It is a feeling that has been gnawing at me for a while now. After what feels like a gazillion travel plans that died a slow death within the confines of my cranial cavity, there's one that found wings and got away. Don't know about the whole different self, but definitely in a whole different place.

Taking a break from the everyday India. Waking up to everyday Dubai for another two weeks. Taking in the scenery, the well tended patches of green and flowers against the golden sandy terrain, the beautiful lattice work where I'm used to seeing ugly blocks of concrete, and the urban fireflies lighting up spaces as we celebrate the festivities of the year end, and new beginnings.

You can follow snapshots of my wandering, and rambling, and some new art here.
Pink Ginger

This year I compiled a series of small paintings called Pink Ginger.

Pink Ginger was an ongoing series, put together for collectors of small artworks and also to make art more accessible to first time buyers; for people who are interested, but aren't sure where to begin.

The series comprised of artworks in various styles, and themes. Some breaks from the usual, and sometimes synchronous with the main body of works I was working on.
"A cheque from Joe Gordon- Levitt! Woohoo!"

That is how the month of May started for me. I worked on a story panel for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's HitRecord some time in 2011. This book RECollection: Volume 1 is the very first anthology of hitRECord’s work, an eight inch square, cloth bound tome that is a well crafted and meticulously designed piece of art. With equal attention given to each medium - video, audio, image, text.

Obviously stoked that my Carnegie Hall story panel found its way into the book. Doubly so for having received a cheque from the man himself. So Yay me!
More awesomeness in the mailbox. Folio.
I curated a series titled Reverberations for Folio. It is a medley of textures. Some slathered, and comforting like butter on toast. Some furious strokes exploding with electric energy.Of cities that look like a well used box of crayons, the pavo real and more. The comfort in repetitions, of finding the zen in zentangles. In love with how the work looks in print.
Folio is the literary journal published by American University's MFA program based in Washington DC.
Finding inspiration in Alien Landscapes

Of Magical sunsets, Blue binds &
The Tree of Life.
Enchanted lands. Alien landscapes.

The tree of light set against the morning light, Aurora is a story of duality. Depicting change in season, the cold branches reaching out to the warmth, and the blossom laden ones finding solace in the remnant inkiness of dawn. It is depictive of the light and the dark. Of the struggle between taking flight and staying bound. It is a work depictive of struggle, decay and birth.

And the Lopsided

Faces. Lopsided. Imperfect. Perfect.

The series comprises of faces I know, and those from my imagination.

It is series dedicated to the lopsided. Of seeking the perfect in the imperfect. Of finding resonance in Staccato and the glitchy.
Transformations
These enchantments on wings have a way of emerging in my work always symbolic of change. Sometimes as a gnawing feeling at the back of the mind; of a shift in energies, when one knows something has changed but can't put a finger on what exactly.  Sometimes a more obvious Ah-Ha moment of things falling into place.

When I started putting together the Butterfly Effect series in 2012, little did I know that the series, true to its name, would keep resonating through my creative process, through my own personal metamorphosis, as it has, & grow to have this kind of a symbolic significance.

This year saw new layers added to some of the older works and an addition of two new pieces to the series.
Festivity in a frame

After many inquiries finally added some colored prints to the shop. These made some pretty awesome Diwali gifts.

The season of gifts arrived early this year. Starting July and continuing into the festivities of the year end. It's quite awesome that most of my work that I sent out in the last few months is as gifts. An arty gift for a mother in law who loves peacocks, from a doting son in law. A birthday gift of dragonflies to a sister deserving of a pretty birthday surprise. A painting for a corporate client to gift to one of his important business contacts. A lovely girl's gift to herself using her first salary from a favorite new job. Another birthday surprise, this one from a loving husband to his wife. And a bunch of Diwali gifts. Prints. Originals. And everything in between. Again, very grateful to all of you wonderful people who let me be a part of it!
A few misses, many hits. Overall a brilliant brilliant year. Thank you for making it so. Good luck my fellow traveler, God bless, and may your journey ahead be a magnificent one. Happy New Year folks.
