iPadOS - New Slide Over Stack Preview

Hi <<First Name>>,

Wow! Can you believe it is August already?

This means we are a little over one month from the public release of Apple's new iPadOS. (Estimated public release - 2nd week of September.)

Built on the foundation of iOS, iPadOS now has its own operating system featuring iPad specific features designed for a large Multi‑Touch display.

Back in iOS 9 (2015), Apple introduced a new multi-task feature called Slide Over, which gave iPad users the ability to view information from one app while using another.

In iOS 11, Apple changed how you invoked the Slide Over feature. Instead of swiping left from the right edge of the screen (with an app active), iOS 11 and 12 users, while in an app, could swipe up from under the bottom of the screen to display the Dock. Then drag an app icon from the Dock onto the open app.

In iPadOS, you will access Slide Over the same way as in iOS 11 and 12, but you will now have an option to drag multiple apps to a Slide Over Stack.

Having multiple Slide Over apps at your fingers tips allows you to view and flip (swipe) between multiple apps at any time.

If you want to move the Slide Over Stack from one side to the other, just flick the stack to the opposite side. You can also hide the stack by simply flicking the stack to either edge of the screen. You can swipe back to return it to the screen.

If you don't want to cycle through all stacked Slide Over apps, you can go directly to an app by simply swiping up from the bottom of the Slide Over Stack window into the Slide Over switcher.

In the Slide Over switcher, you tap on an app to open in the Slide Over window. You can also swipe up on an app to remove it from the Slide Over Stack.

What I like about the updated Slide Over feature is you can keep all your favorite apps at the ready, and quickly cycle through them by swiping.

There are many more new and updated features in iPadOS. I'll be covering them in upcoming editions. So please keep an eye out for them.
