Repair to London Road Verge

Roger continues to push for money to help repair the verge on the service road off the Asda island, on the London Road. Officers will have a look and see if they can make it a priority. It has been pointed out that it’s a major route into the city that currently looks very unsightly. Residents stated that this area looked fine before the council removed all the shrubbery. A petition about this issue was submitted and featured in our 27th March 2016 update

Whitley Residents’ Meeting
Roger attended last week’s Whitley Residents & Neighbourhood Watch Association meeting. Chris, Farrans’ Site Manager responsible for building the new Tiverton school, gave an update of progress and addressed concerns raised by residents on both social media and in person.

So far 551 people have signed the Whitley petition for traffic calming, representing 364 of the dwellings on the estate. The petition to-date was handed over to Roger and fellow councillor, and has been processed through the council system. It will be presented at full council on Tuesday 14th March, sometime after 14.45.

It’s not too late to add your signature. You can call Doug on 76304952 or visit 26, Ashington Grove before Wednesday, March 15th when the petition closes.

Parking Restrictions in Asthill Grove & Orchard Crescent
In our 13th November 2016 update we listed the proposed installation of ‘No Parking on the Footway’ restriction along the full length of Asthill Grove and Orchard Crescent. Responding to many residents fears about this Roger submitted an objection to this part of the proposal. STAR (the local residents group) also asked the council to omit the crescents from the proposal.

On 20th March, Roger will attend the cabinet meeting to discuss these objections.

Double Yellow Lines on Glover Street & Benedictine Road

In order to save money the council now group many items in their Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs). Unfortunately this has delayed the installation of the double yellow lines on Glover Street & Benedictine Road because they were in the same TRO as Asthill Grove and Orchard Crescent.

After the 20th March cabinet meeting decision the agreed restrictions should be implemented by the end of April.

Parking Displacement Issues Affecting John Grace Street
In our 4th December 2016 update we reported that Roger had submitted the petition for the residents of John Grace Street who asked to be included in the Cheylesmore Residents Parking Scheme.

Roger and the resident, who instigated the petition, have received a response from Coventry City Council. It stated that the initial survey indicates that there is sufficient car parking space on the road and therefore it does not qualify to join the scheme. This can be challenged at a future cabinet meeting, which Roger is now keen to do.

New Tiverton School Update - Friday 10th March 2017
From the "New Tiverton Delivery Team" for Coventry City Council which consists of Council Officers, the designers and also the builders:
Works to the foundations are on-going. The wet weather has presented some problems as the ground conditions are saturated. The initial block work has commenced, under-slab drainage will soon start to be installed and then the floor slab. Large excavators continue to be on site during this phase. Once this work is complete, small scale excavations will take place for further drainage, ducts and landscaping.

Additional builder’s compound accommodation will be installed in the next couple of weeks.  Some site cabins will be installed into the rear garden area of their current (former caretaker’s) house.

Traffic, all delivery drivers to Tiverton site are given instructions about the route, delivery times and the need to proceed with caution. Chris, Farrans’ Site Manager, attended the Whitley Residents’ Association meeting on Wednesday 8th March and explained how he was managing this.
Whitley Abbey Primary School still have their school deliveries, Chris is liaising closely with the school.

St Christian's Road Parking Petition
In our 1st January update it was stated that Roger had received confirmation that the petition raised by the residents of St Christian's Road requesting to be added to the existing Cheylesmore Residents Parking Scheme, had been processed.

Excerpt from recent letter from Karen Seager, Head of Traffic and Network Management:
In order to assess the parking situation at this location, parking surveys will be conducted to assess the extent of the problem. We will contact you again once the results of these surveys have been analysed.

Bins Left Out on Quinton Park
Our 5th February update pictured the unsightly bins always left out by some residents on Quinton Park.

Response from Simon Jones, Environmental Case Officer:
Good Afternoon Cllr Bailey,
Re: Bins on the street Quinton Park
With regards to the issue above I have written letters to the properties concerned and after a revisit the bins had been removed.

Styvechale Open Gardens - New Gardens Wanted
From Graham Pountney Chair:
Styvechale Open Gardens is part of the National Garden Scheme (ngs) of private gardens open to the public for charity.
Each year ngs raises over £2 million pounds for charity.

This year is ngs 90th anniversary.

There are many lovely gardens in Cheylesmore and Styvechale. We are always looking for new gardeners to join our Group particularly in the anniversary year. Every potential new gardener always worries about the same things - will anyone come, is my garden good enough, will people ask me hard questions as I'm no expert. We all worry but it never happens. All our visitors are very friendly and appreciative. It is always a lovely event. Many visitors return year after year and become friends.

If you feel that you would like to join us and do a bit for charity, please give me a call on 024 7650 2044 or email
grahampountney@btinternet.com. The Group will give you all the support and advice you want.

This year Styvechale Open Gardens is on Sunday 11th June, 11.00 am - 5.00pm. The local charity being supported is Coventry Myton Hospice.
